Justine Ryan

Expedition Coordinator

A lifelong wild streak, passion for the environment and deep love of the sea explains Justine’s career in the Polar Regions. Her homeport is on the banks of the Thames in London, England, but she has always had a yearning for the sea itself. Born in Costa Rica to Canadian parents and raised in the Cayman Islands, Justine has long been comfortable anywhere in the world. When she was young, her family chose adventure and went sailing around the world for a year, from Spain to Australia. For her last years of high school and university, she moved to the UK and had to learn how to live in a city! Her early sailing adventures cemented both a love for traveling and understanding of the world. Her passion for discovering new places has only increased; including a recent stint working and living in Havana, Cuba.

Justine graduated with a first-class history degree from the University of Oxford and is excited to share her enthusiasm and knowledge of history with you. When not immersed in academia, Justine trains as a boxer and currently holds an undefeated fighting record. Her best advice for new polar explorers is to take some time to stop and notice the subliminal beauty of the Polar Regions, to find a hill to pause on or a rock to lean against.
